About Justin Barber
Music and creativity have always been integral in the Barber household. My father, holding a Masters Degree in vocal performance and musical composition, and my mom, a cellist in multiple orchestras, filled our home with the sounds of their practice sessions, creating a melodic backdrop to my childhood. Despite this rich musical environment, I chose not to pursue music at the college level. Instead, I focused on nursing while continuing to explore poetry, filmmaking, acting, directing, producing, entrepreneurship, and more. Focusing on nursing helped me avoid spreading myself too thin, allowing gradual exploration of my other interests. In 2012, I co-founded Duke Street Productions with my best friend, Seth Haley, and my sister, Amanda Barber, establishing a Christian multimedia company dedicated to quality, thoughtful, and Biblically rooted content. That same year, I directed my first film, "The Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club," setting the stage for consistent messaging and an approach aimed at glorifying Christ.
During my teenage years, my passion for movies and music flourished, leading to the composition of around 20 piano pieces. In 2010, I achieved a significant milestone by creating an album featuring all my piano compositions. Concurrently, I engaged in sporadic hymn writing, often setting lyrics from classic hymnists like Charles Wesley, Samuel Wesley, and Joseph Hart. In 2014, I collaborated with composer and producer Zachary Horner, resulting in the co-composition of 10 vocal songs. The year 2022 marked a significant creative collaboration with poet Kyna Morgan, leading to the musical adaptation of her incredible hymn lyrics.
